PDC Players Championships -Most Matches Won
This weekend on the PDC tour there are two Players Championship tournaments taking place (one on Saturday and one on Sunday), these are the 12th and 13th Players Championship tournaments of the season, of which there are 20 on the calendar.
I’ve produced a list of which players have had the most match wins in the Players Championship tournaments so far in 2016 and also added a comparison on how they fared across the 20 Players Championship tournaments played in 2015.
My first chart shows the 15 players with the most matches won.
Dave Chisnall and Benito van de Pas lead the way with 35 wins each with also nothing to separate them on win %. It is worth pointing out that Chisnall was top of matches won in 2015 too so no player has won more matches in Players Championship tournaments than he has since the start of 2015.
Just behind the top two are Peter Wright and Gerwyn Price on 34 wins (Wright has a better win % having needed less matches to compile his 34 wins). Michael van Gerwen might not be top if this list but that is only because he has played 5 of the 11 tournaments, his win % of 87.9% head and shoulders above the rest. The consistency of Mensur Suljovic is also highlighted and he is 5th on the list.
On the far right column you will notice the ‘Win % Difference from 2015 to 2016 column’ this shows the improvement or the decline of their 2016 win % in the Players Championship tournaments compared to last season.
From this it is evident how much some of the players have improved from last season. Joe Cullen is the biggest riser here having increased his win % by over 26% from 2015. With just over half of the Players Championship tournaments played this year he has already won 13 matches more than he did in the Players Championship tournaments over all of 2015.
Other players to note who have already won more matches in PC tournaments than last season are Kyle Anderson, Jamie Caven and Steve Beaton. Robbie Green comes close to that list to having won the same amount of matches in 11 Players Championship tournaments in 2016 than he did in 20 tournaments during the 2015 season, and Alan Norris is only 2 wins short of his 2015 total (bearing in mind he actually won a tournament in 2015 too).
My next chart lists the next 10 players (16 to 26 including ties) with most matches won in 2016 Players Championship tournaments.
Included in this list is the impressive Josh Payne who has won a PC tournament this season, Chris Dobey who has upped his win percentage by over 26% from last year, also players such as Ricky Evans and Jermaine Wattimena who are making good strides compared to their 2015 performances.
On the negative is Jelle Klaasen, his numbers were up there with the best last year having won nearly 77% of his PC tournament matches, his win percentage is over 16% down on what it was in 2015.
You may think where are the likes of Gary Anderson, Phil Taylor, Adrian Lewis, James Wade and Raymond van Barneveld? They haven’t played in too many of the Players Championship tournaments but then again neither has Michael van Gerwen and he has still made it into the top 6 despite playing less than half of the tournaments.
I hope you found this analysis useful, and that it can assist you if you are having a bet on this weekend’s Players Championship tournaments or maybe just looking for a player to follow for a bit of interest.
