Premier League Elimination – Weeks 8 & 9 Fixture Analysis
The Premier League nears elimination night where we say goodbye to two players and the field is reduced from 10 to 8. Who will be the two players to exit the tournament though?
I have decided to analyse the remaining fixtures for each of the bottom 5 in the table to see who might have the best chances of avoiding finishing in the elimination zone. The players on 7 points (Taylor and Wade) are safe in my opinion.
Here are my thoughts and findings to help you decide how the next two weeks may pan out.
Firstly a table with the remaining fixtures and head to head records. Then the analysis below the table will explain the stats.
Stephen Bunting – Bunting has picked up form in the Premier League with 2 wins a draw from his last 3 matches. In week 7 he plays Anderson and as we see in his last 6 matches against Anderson his win % is only 16.7% (1 win from 6) and he has only won 36.2% of the overall legs in those games. In week 9 Bunting faces Huybrechts, although Bunting has a 50% win record in the last 6 matches he has won a lesser share of overall legs played.
Peter Wright – Wright is unbeaten in his last 5 matches and this includes draws against van Gerwen and Taylor so his confidence should be good. He does have a tough fixture in week 8 with his head to head record against Wade not good as he hasn’t won any of their last 6 fixtures and has only won 34% of all legs played in those matches. Wright also has a tough opponent in week 9 in Adrian Lewis; Wright has won 2 of their last 6 matches.
Raymond van Barneveld – Had van Barneveld lost against Taylor last week I am pretty certain he would have been eliminated but the win gives him hope of keeping his Premier League campaign alive beyond week 9. The only players standing in Barney’s way are van Gerwen and Anderson! van Barneveld defeated van Gerwen in the Premier League final but has lost all 6 meetings since then winning 35.9% of the overall legs played. RVB’s record against Anderson is more encouraging with Barney winning 4 of the last 6 meetings including their most recent match at the Masters in February. Encouraging for the Dutchman is that he has also won over 59% of all legs played in those 6 matches.
Adrian Lewis – Having not won a match since the opening week of the Premier League season now is the time for Lewis to put that statistic to bed. Lewis may take confidence from the fact he has a winning recent record against Dave Chisnall his opponent in Week 8. Of their last 6 meetings Lewis has won 5 of them. In week 9 Lewis faces Peter Wright. Should Lewis win in week 8 and Wright lose in Week 8 Lewis will be 1 point ahead of Wright and would only need a point to secure his progression to week 10. Lewis does have 3 wins and a draw against Wright in their last 6 meetings.
Kim Huybrechts – Huybrechts has performed much better than his points tally suggests but he seems certain to be eliminated in Week 9. A match against Taylor this week is a tough ask with Huybrechts having failed to win against Taylor in 8 previous meetings, although he has run Taylor close in their last 2 matches. Rounding off against Bunting in Week 9 Huybrechts has a 50% win record and has won nearly 54% of the overall legs in their last 6 meetings.
Overall it should be tense on week 9 that’s for sure with any 1 of 4 players fighting it out to avoid elimination. What is your prediction? And have those stats altered your opinion in any way?
