PREMIER LEAGUE DARTS FORM GUIDE – WEEK 3
The PDC Premier League moves on to Liverpool this week where the Echo arena plays host to some intriguing match ups including the headline match of van Gerwen vs Anderson. To compliment your viewing I have written a form guide and produced some stats that might just help you on your way to winning a bet.
First up my stats table – This gives you the low down on how the players stats compare from their last 10 matches played on TV. Who has been hitting the high averages, the most 180’s and what is the highest checkout a player has hit during this time.
Now onto the analysis on how the players have performed in the Premier League so far along with their head to heads and overall form.
Wade vs Chisnall
Premier League Form – Both players come into this match unbeaten in their opening two fixtures with Wade having drawn against Bunting and won against Huybrechts whilst Chisnall has beaten both Wright and van Barneveld.
Averages – Wade has averaged higher than Chisnall in both weeks of the tournament, hitting an impressive 104 average last week.
180’s – Despite Chisnall’s notoriety on the 180’s he has only hit 1 more 180 than Wade in the opening two weeks though he has played one leg fewer.
Finishing – Both have hit checkouts of over 100 in their opening two weeks although last Thursday Wade hit the highest checkout of the week with a 143.
Head to Head – Wade holds the overall advantage 8-4 but the last six meetings have been split 3-3. Wade won their most high profile match with a 9-2 victory in last 32 of the 2013 UK Open.
Recent Tour Form – Wade reached the final of a UK Open qualifying event earlier this month losing to van Gerwen. Chisnall’s best showing has been a quarter-final appearance; he failed to qualify for the opening two Euro Tour events losing in the qualifiers in January.
Wright vs van Barneveld
Premier League Form – Wright and van Barneveld are both looking for their first win in the Premier League this season following back to back defeats for the pair. Wright has only mustered 2 legs in total during his defeats to Chisnall and Anderson with van Barneveld losing 7-1 and 7-5 to Lewis and Chisnall.
Averages – The lowest two match averages after two weeks of play are held by these two with both failing to top 90 in week one. Wright did improve to average 100 last week but van Barneveld averaged under 92.
180’s – van Barneveld has registered 4 180s so far with Wright managing 2 which were both hit during week 1.
Finishing – Despite only 2 legs won overall compared to van Barneveld’s 6 it is Wright who holds the highest checkout with 58. Both players are around 20% on their doubles after two weeks.
Head to Head – van Barneveld dominates the head to head meetings with 7 wins to 1 though the matches have generally been closely contested including a 7-5 win for RVB and a 6-6 draw in last year’s Premier League.
Recent Tour Form – Wright’s best performances have been quarter-finals in a UK Open qualifier and at the Masters. Van Barneveld has not reached the later stages of a floor tournament but reached the final of the Masters earlier this month defeating Gary Anderson on the way before losing to MVG.
Taylor vs Bunting
Premier League Form – Taylor’s opening night defeat to new World Champion Gary Anderson was followed by an impressive 7-1 win against Adrian Lewis last week. Bunting is looking for his first win in his debut Premier League season after drawing 6-6 v Wade and losing 7-3 to van Gerwen it has been a tough baptism with matches against two former PL champions.
Averages – Taylor has averaged over a 104 in both his matches so far with his best being last week – a 108 against Lewis. Bunting has also shown capability of averaging into the 100’s with his 103 average against van Gerwen in week 2.
180’s – Bunting has scored at least 3 180s in both of his opening two games. Overall Taylor has scored 3 180s less than Bunting with one leg fewer played.
Finishing – In the 21 legs winning legs combined between Taylor and Bunting neither has managed a 100+ checkout. Bunting highest of 97 tops Taylors highest of 82.
Head to Head – Only 3 previous meetings since Bunting moved over to the PDC at the start of last season. Taylor has won 2 to 1 although Bunting won their most recent meeting, a 10-9 thriller in the quarter-finals of the 2014 European Championship last October.
Recent Tour Form – Taylors only appearance on tour so far this season has been in the invitational PDC Masters where he lost to Terry Jenkins in his first game. Bunting’s best two performances have been last 16 appearances in his last two events where he has run into the eventual champion van Gerwen both times.
van Gerwen vs Anderson
Premier League Form – van Gerwen and Anderson have both won their opening two fixtures in the Premier League both also conceding the same amount of legs (6) in doing so. MVG has beaten Huybrechts and Bunting with Anderson victorious against Taylor and Wright.
Averages – van Gerwen has posted impressive averages of over 107 and 109 in his two matches giving him the highest overall average of any player after two games played. Anderson averaged a shade under 100 in his opening match but was around the 107 mark for his win against Wright.
180’s – The 180 count is in favour of MVG 6-3 after two weeks of play, both having played 20 legs in total.
Finishing – MVG has hit high checkouts of 145 and 138 so far, the 145 being the highest in the Premier League so far this year. Anderson hit 4 100+ checkouts in his last match the highest of these was a 126.
Head to Head – The overall head to head record is well in favour of MVG at 16 wins to 8. The recent record however is only 4-3. Anderson put paid to van Gerwen retaining his World Championship in their semi-final meeting in early January. Their most recent meeting last weekend saw van Gerwen average just under 118 in beating Anderson 6-2 in the German Darts Championship final.
Recent Tour Form – van Gerwen’s form on tour this season is outstanding. He has won 4 out of the 5 tournaments played and was a beaten finalist in the other. Since his World Championship win at the start of the year, Anderson was beaten in the final of the German Darts Championship and he also reached the semi-final of the PDC Masters.
Lewis vs Huybrechts
Premier League Form – A mixed start for Lewis in terms of performance with an outstanding display in defeating van Barneveld 7-1 in week 1. Lewis never hit the same heights against Taylor last week though and was beaten 7-2. Huybrechts has had a tough start to his debut season in the Premier League and has suffered back to back defeats against van Gerwen and Wade, worth noting though that they hit averages of 107.7 and 104.1 against Huybrechts.
Averages – Lewis averaged a mammoth 113.8 in his opening week match though he dipped under 98 last week against Phil Taylor. Huybrechts has averaged 96 across his two matches; he is a player capable of upping that but will need to improve on last weeks all round scoring.
180’s –Lewis is the top 180 scorer in the Premier League after 2 weeks with 8 in his 17 legs played. Huybrechts failed to hit a 180 in the opening week before he registered 2 last week in his defeat against Wade.
Finishing – Lewis leads this matchup with a 138 on the opening night, the highest checkout for Huybrechts so far has been a 78 against MVG in week one.
Head to Head – The overall head to head record between the pair is close with Lewis leading 7-5; this changes dramatically though with the recent meetings as Lewis has won the last 6 encounters.
Recent Tour Form – Lewis has shown very good form on the tour so far this year, winning the first UK Open qualifier including inflicting the only defeat for van Gerwen in the final and he has also reached the semi-finals of the Masters and the German Darts Championship. Huybrechts hasn’t really hit his peak form; his best showing in a tournament has been the last 16 in one of the UK Open qualifiers.
Hopefully you enjoyed the form guide!
