On Sunday Michael van Gerwen continued his blistering start to 2015 by capturing his 3rd PDC ranking tournament win from 4 tournaments played on the circuit and on top of that he has also won the PDC Masters.

The only defeat he has suffered in competitive darts since the World Championships is a loss to Adrian Lewis in the final of a UK Open qualifier.

The defeat to Gary Anderson in the World Championship semi-final has really kick-started van Gerwen into showing some of his best form over the past few weeks. The average of just short of 118 that van Gerwen hit in defeating Anderson at the German Darts Championship highlights the level he is capable of right now.

Having seen van Gerwen lift yet another trophy I thought I would compare how many ranking tournaments he has won since the major breakthrough of winning the World Grand Prix in October 2012.

The stats are certainly worth seeing with van Gerwen having won 25 ranking titles starting with the win at the World Grand Prix. To put this into context the players ranked 2, 3 and 4 in the PDC rankings (Taylor, Anderson and Lewis) have won a combined total of 23 ranking tournaments between them during this period. I have no biasedness to van Gerwen but one has to admire the consistency he has shown.

MVG Tournament Wins

It has to be mentioned that Phil Taylor has won 6 TV major ranking events during this time to van Gerwen’s total of 5 and had Taylor entered more of the regular tour ranking events the stats may be different but nothing should be taken away from the tournament victory dominance van Gerwen has achieved over this time span.

With 3 UK Open qualifiers being played this coming weekend who would bet against van Gerwen adding one and maybe more ranking event wins to his ever impressive tally.
